Revered comic book writer, Geoff Johns, has a long history of writing compelling comic books and producing various television series. His latest work involves a television adaptation of the Stargirl comics, a character he also created.
Stargirl has been picked up for a second season, and here are some of the actors you can expect to see on screen.
1. Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore
Brec Bassinger secured the leading role in the series, but the young actress is no stranger to the small and large screen. Bassinger got her acting start when she played Emma Hawking in the television series The Haunted Hathaways on Nickelodeon from 2013-2014.
She was then in a couple of TV movies, but her big break came when she stared in the Disney Channel Original, Bella and the Bulldogs for 40 episodes. In the show, she played the lead character, Bella, who is on the cheer squad before getting recruited to the football team.
Bassinger hasn’t stopped working since, as her resume is filled with various other roles in television series until she scored the spot of Stargirl, or Courntey Whitemore in 2020. Courtney has a nice, orinary life until her mom marries Pat Dugan, and the familiy has to move from sunny California to a small town in Nebraska.
2. Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan
Luke Wilson plays the role of Pat Dugan, a quiet and reserved stepfather to Courntey after he marries her mom and they relocate to a small town. Wilson has been an actor for decades, and his first role came in a short called Bottle Rocket, created by his brothers.
After playing several small roles in movies and television shows, Wilson’s first big break was the love interest, Emmett, in Legally Blonde opposite Reese Witherspoon. Wilson also played a recurring role in the hit show That 70’s Show, playing the brother of Michael Kelso (Ashton Kutchar). He also starred in Idiocracy, a cult favorite comedy, and was later cast in the television series Roadies for ten episodes.
In Stargirl, Dugan has a collection of powerful armor and weapons that Courntey discovers, and the two team up to stop evil forces in their city of Blue Valley, Nebraska.
3. Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez
Yvette Monreal is another talented young actress who has been in the acting game since 2013. Her first role was Temperance in the TV Series Harpies, but she garnered more widespread recognition for her role as Senna Galan in Matador and as Reagen in Faking It. More recently, she was on the popular show The Fosters, and played Gabriela in Rambo: Last Blood.
Her character, Yolanda Montez, was a tight-laced, straight-A student that was well-liked in school until an unfortunate situation forcded her into social exile. She forms a friendship with Courtney, and she takes on the alter-ego of Wildcat II.
Stargirl season 1 premiered on May 18th, 2020, and fans can rewatch the series on The CW, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime. The second season is set to premier on August 10th, 2021, with new episodes coming out each week.
