Knowing how to make a CDC-approved cloth face mask will not guarantee your safety from the pandemic, but it can slow down the spread of the virus. Therefore, you should know how to create a CDC-approved one to help eliminate the spread of the virus even only for a small percentage.

CDC stands for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If there is an organization that knows the best type of mask to use for COVID-19 protection, this is it. That is why you should create one according to their guidelines and advice.

What the CDC Recommends You to Do Once You Have a Face Mask

CDC reminds you not to forget to do the following even though you have a CDC-approved face mask:

  • Do not touch the mask or your face.
  • Clean your hands and use a disinfectant.
  • Practice proper distancing

How to Make a Rave Face Mask

According to the CDC, there are two ways to make a face mask. You can choose to use a sewing machine or not.

For the sewn face mask, here is what to do:

  • Prepare two pieces of 10 by 6 inches of cotton fabric, two pieces of 6 inches of elastic for the straps, thread, scissors, needles, pins, and a sewing machine.
  • Fold the long edges of both fabric at ¼ inches. Secure them. Fold the short sides at ½ inches, and sew around, leaving a cylindrical hole.
  • Pass the elastic through the small circular hole, and tie both sides of the elastic to create an ear loop. Do the same on the other side.
  • Tuck the knots inside to hide them from view, and stitch them to keep them in place.

For the no-sew face mask, here is what to do:

  • Prepare scissors and a T-shirt.
  • Cut the shirt 7 to 8 inches from the bottom of the shirt.
  • Flatten the shirt to form a rectangle.
  • Cut 6 to 7 inches from the right edge of the rectangle at about ½ inches from the top.
  • Cut 6 to 7 inches from the right side of it at about ½ inches from the bottom.
  • Cut the loop from the inside at the right edge. Cut on both the top and the bottom, which will serve as the face mask strings. You can tie the top strings over your head and the bottom strings around the neck.

You have no excuse for not wearing a face mask, especially during the pandemic. You can create one in two ways, whether you know how to sew or not. What you need to bear in mind once you have one is that it does not guarantee your safety but only slows down its spread.

What is essential is to follow the preventive measures advised by the CDC and make a CDC-approved cloth face mask made in USA in public.
